The Chatham County Board of Education on March 13, approved Kevin Leake as the principal at Chatham Middle School.
Leake brings more than two decades of experience to his new role, including serving as a social studies, PE and language arts teacher at Chatham Middle early in his career. In addition to his time in the classroom, Leake has served most recently as an assistant principal and principal at Thomasville Middle School in the Thomasville City Schools district in North Carolina.
Leake was the 2016 Principal of the Year for Thomasville City Schools. In addition, he earned the Distinguished Leadership in Practice Certification from the N.C. Principals and Assistant Principals Association in 2016. He has served as a presenter at the National Elementary and Secondary Education Act conference. In 2019, he received the Community Service Award from the Martin Luther King Social Action Committee.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Elon College and his Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership from High Point University.
“This feels like coming home,” Leake said. “I am so honored to have the opportunity to serve the school and community where I started my career more than 20 years ago. I look forward to getting to know my students and their families, reconnecting with people I knew when I was in the classroom at Chatham Middle, and being a part of the great things happening in Chatham County Schools.”
Chatham County Schools Superintendent Dr. Anthony Jackson said Leake’s knowledge of the community and prior experience at Chatham Middle are tremendous assets, as is his proven track record as an administrator.
“The things Mr. Leake accomplished as a principal and assistant principal have demonstrated outstanding leadership,” Jackson said. “With those achievements, and Mr. Leake’s prior experience in the Chatham Middle community, he will be an excellent fit in this role. We are delighted he chose to come back to Chatham County Schools.”
