Mark Hewitt Pottery Holiday Kiln Opening 2022

Posted by Norowilson

Twice a year we open a kiln load of over 1500 pots and invite everyone to the pottery for an Open Studio event we call a Kiln Opening! It’s a great way to see the pottery workshop, the massive wood kilns, the showroom/barn, and shop for beautiful pottery while you enjoy a day in the country.

Our shelves are stocked with comfy mugs, lovely tumblers, plates and bowls, elegant vases, pitchers, lidded jars, handsome serving bowls, grand platters and planters - all made by master potter, Mark Hewitt, and his current intern, Dalton Hughes. This is the 108th Firing of the wood-burning kiln Mark built in 1983, and all the pots are stamped ’108’ and either Mark or Dalton’s signature stamp.

Several of Mark’s life-sized 'Big Pots’ - tall vases, jars and sentinels that were fired in this kiln - are also on display.

Children are always welcome. We have swings!

For directions, more about our Kiln Openings and to be added to our mailing list, please head to our website. https://hewittpottery.com/ We are also #36 on the 30th Annual Chatham Studio Tour. You can find a map and details about all the other artists here. http://www.chathamartistsguild.org/ We will also have Chatham Studio Tour programs here at the pottery..

What a great time to tour Chatham County! You won’t want to miss this special time to meet the artists and see their high quality work.
